National Insurance Householders Policy is a packaged policy which provides a range of covers that are required for a common householder. This National Insurance Householders Policy covers building and household items. The plan is very comprehensive and also covers personal accident including medical expenses as well. This National Insurance Householders Policy covers a number of risks under single policy. Insured has to get his household contents as per their market value and Electrical Items on replacement value. This National Insurance Householders Policy will additionally cover your building structure against loss due to fire and allied perils.
Benefits of National Insurance Householders Policy
- The Policyholder have the option of taking a Standard Fire and Special Perils policy if the policyholder want to insure the property while it is under construction.
- Once the construction is complete, the policyholder may opt for householder Policy to cover the policyholder content of the house against fire & allied perils, Burglary and/or housebreaking, hold-up, mechanical and electrical breakdown of appliance etc with addition of host of value added features.
- The policyholder is entitled to 15% discount for opting more than four section and 20% discount on premium for opting more than six section respectively, excluding Tariff Sections premium i.e. Fire & Allied Perils Section and Public Liability & Workman Compensation Risks Section, but for Section discount all Sections (Tariff & Non-Tariff sections) is considered.
- No health check up is required under this National Insurance Householders Policy.
National Insurance Householders Policy Cover Options
Different options covered under this National Insurance Householders Policy are explained below
BUILDING AND CONTENTS: This National Insurance Householders Policy option covers loss of or damage to the building/contents by fire & allied perils, such as
- Fire, Lightning, Explosion of gas in domestic appliances.
- Bursting and overflowing of water tanks, apparatus or pipes.
- Aircraft or articles dropped therefrom.
- Riot, Strike or Malicious Act.
- Earthquake Fire and/or Shock, Subsidence and Landslide (including Rock slide) damage.
- Flood, Inundation, Storm, Tempest, Typhoon, Hurricane, Tornado or Cyclone.
- Impact damage.
BURGLARY AND HOUSEBREAKING INCLUDING LARCENY OR THEFT: The National Insurance Company will indemnify the insured in respect of loss or damage to the contents whilst contained in the insured premises by Burglary housebreaking including larceny and theft.
ALL RISKS (JEWELLERY AND VALUABLES): This option covers loss or damage to jewellery & valuables caused by accident whilst anywhere in India. Recent invoice/receipt or valuation Certificate should be obtained for items valued at more than Rs.5000/- each.
PLATE GLASS: This option covers loss of or damage to fixed plate glass in the Insured premises by accidental breakage provided that the liability of the Company in respect of any one loss or all losses in any one period of insurance is limited to the sum set against in the Schedule.
BREAKDOWN OF DOMESTIC APPLIANCES: This Section Covers Loss or damage to domestic appliances caused by mechanical and/or electrical breakdown. Sum Insured in respect of each item should be its new replacement value.
TELEVISION SET: This National Insurance Householders Policy option covers the following loss of or damage of television which are explained below
- Fire, lightning, explosion of gas in domestic appliances.

PEDAL CYCLE: This National Insurance Householders Policy option covers loss of or damage to the Pedal Cycles belonging to the Insured or any member of the Insured’s family by
- Fire, Lightning, or External Explosion.
- Riot, Strike or Malicious Act.
- Burglary and/or Housebreaking or Theft.
- Accidental External Means.
- Flood, Cyclone, Storm, Tempest, and other similar convulsions of nature and atmospheric disturbance.
- Earthquake Fire and/or Shock.
BAGGAGE: This Section covers loss or damage to Insured’s accompanied baggage by accident or misfortune whilst the Insured is on tour or holiday anywhere in India.
PERSONAL ACCIDENTAL: The policyholder, his spouse and his children, all between the age of 5 and 70 years can be covered under this National Insurance Householders Policy section. The insurance option covers death, permanent total disablement, permanent partial disablement and Temporary total disablement.
Additional Benefits:
- Expenses incurred for carriage of dead body of Insured (death due to accident only) to place of residence subject to a maximum of 2% of Capital Sum Insured of Rs.1,000/- whichever is lower.
- Under this policy Medical expenses arising out of an accident up to 10% of Capital Sum Insured or 40% of the admissible claim whichever is lower against an additional Premium of 20% of basic Premium.
PUBLIC LIABILITY: The Company will indemnify the insured in respect of sums which the insured shall become legally liable to pay as a private householder occupying the premises specified in the schedule.
National Insurance Householders Policy Buying Procedure
General instructions should follow to buy this National Insurance Householders policy
- Contact National Insurance office nearest to your place of convenience either directly or through an authorized agent.
- Submit the Proposal Form to National Insurance office either directly or through an authorized Agent. Please note that the company Agent service can be availed by directly contacting National Insurance office concerned through either telephone lines or through E-mail.
- Some risks may call for pre-acceptance survey. In such cases surveyor will be appointed by National Insurance office to estimate the quantum of risk involved and other related matters.
- Premium estimates will be given to the Proposer through National Insurance Computerized Offices.
- Policy will be issued to the policyholder either directly on request or through registered post.
National Insurance Householders Policy Claim Procedure
Required steps to be taken for claim procedure under National Insurance Householders policy
- The Policyholder should take necessary steps to minimize the loss/damage.
- In case of fire, the policyholder should inform fire brigade immediately.
- In case of theft, larceny or burglary, inform the police immediately along with a list of items stolen and their approximate value.
- Inform insurance company by phone or fax and in writing.
- Extend full co-operation to the surveyor appointed by the insurance Co. and provide necessary documents to the substantiate the loss. A claim form issued by the company is also to be submitted.
Exclusions of National Insurance Householders Policy
- Loss or damage due to terrorism activities unless otherwise specifically included.
- Loss or damage caused by depreciation or wear and tear and consequential losses.
- Loss, Damage, liability or expenses whether direct or indirect occasioned by happening through or arising from any consequence of war, Invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities(whether war be declared or not), Civil War, Rebellion, Revolution, Insurrection warlike operation , military or usurped power or Civil commotion or loot or pillage in connection therein.
- Accident arising due to carrying of illegal activity and or any kind of unlawful act.
- Loss or damage or liability arising out of violation of any Rules and Regulations of the Govt. or Statutory authorities.
- Loss or damage directly or indirectly caused by or arising from or inconsequence of or contributed to by nuclear weapon materials.

Cancellation: If the policyholder is not satisfied with this policy term, company provides free look period of 7 days from date of policy contract to cancel your policy.

What are the exceptions covered under Building and Content?
Under this National Insurance householders policy the company shall not be liable in respect of
- Loss of or damage to articles of consumable nature.
- Loss of or damage to money, securities, stamps, stamp collections, bullion, livestock, motor vehicles and pedal cycles.
- Loss of or damage to deeds, bills of exchange, promissory notes, shares and stock certificates, business books, manuscripts documents of any kind, unset precious stones and jewellery and valuables unless specifically declared.
- Loss or damage to any electronic machine, apparatus fixture or fittings (including electrical fans, electric household or domestic appliances, wireless sets, radio, tape recorders, television sets and the like) or to any portion of electrical installation arising from or occasioned by overrunning, excessive pressure, short-circuiting arcing, self-heating or leakage of electricity from whatever cause (lightning included).
What are the exceptions covered under Personal Accident?

- Compensation under more than one of the foregoing Benefits in respect of the same period of disablement.
- From intentional self-injury, suicide or attempted suicide
- Whilst under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drug
- Directly or indirectly caused by venereal diseases or insanity
- Payment of compensation in respect of Death, injury or Disablement of the Insured arising or resulting from the insured committing any breach of the law with criminal intent.

Under this National Insurance home insurance policy the company shall not be liable in respect of
- Loss or damage due to cracking, scratching or breakage of lens or glass whether part of any equipment or otherwise or to china marble, gramophone records and other articles of brittle or fragile nature unless such loss or damage arise from accident to railway train or aircraft or vehicle by which such property is being conveyed.
- Loss or damage caused by moth, mildew, vermin or any process of cleaning, dyeing, repairing or restoring to which the property is subjected.
- Loss or damage caused by mechanical derangement or over winding of watches and clocks.
- Theft from car except from car of fully enclosed salon type having all the doors, windows and other opening securely locked and properly fastened.
