New India Assurance Overseas mediclaim policy is specially designed for the travelers who are travelling frequently outside India. The main feature of the New India Assurance Overseas mediclaim policy is that the premium is paid in local currency while claims are settled in foreign currency.
New India Assurance Overseas Mediclaim policy covers the medical expenses incurred by insured outside India as a direct result of the bodily injury caused or sickness or any disease contracted during the travel. Also it covers some additional benefits like loss of baggage, personal accident, loss of passport and personal liability which are extended with the payment of extra premium.
New India Assurance Overseas Mediclaim Policy mainly categorized into two types they are:
1. Overseas Mediclaim policy for Business and Holiday:
New India Assurance Overseas mediclaim policy for business and holiday is mainly designed for the people who are traveling to the abroad for their business purpose and for the holiday trip. When you are in the trip with your family you may face with many risks like loss of baggage, loss of passport, medical expenses etc.
2. Overseas Mediclaim policy for Employment and Studies:
The New India Assurance overseas mediclaim for employment and studies is valid only for Citizens of the Republic of India, who are temporarily residing in the Country of Posting (or) For the students who are willing to study their higher education in abroad (or) the people who are solely engaged in research projects.
New India Assurance Overseas Mediclaim Policy Eligibility conditions
Age Limit:
- 6 months to 70 years.
- Policy is to be taken prior to departure from India.
Some Medical Reports are required for:
Trip is for period over 60 days
- If the Insured Person is over 60 yrs of age visiting USA (or) Canada.
- If the Insured Person is over 70 yrs of age and visiting countries other than USA(or)Canada.
- Proposal reveals that insured had suffered from any illness (or) disease.
New India Assurance Overseas Mediclaim Policy Benefits
The New India Assurance Overses Mediclaim policy benefits are payable directly to the Insured Person who sustains the loss, or if the insured person admitted in the hospital at the time of trip, the dental treatment, medical or surgical services will be provided by the company.
New India Assurance Overseas Mediclaim Policy Cover
New India Assurance Overseas Mediclaim policy mainly covers on
Medical (or) Repatriation Expenses(Section A):
Means if the insured person gets any medical emergency situations like dental pain, immediate pain or distress for Illness, some medical illness, then the company will help you and gives you the medical expenses during the period of insurance.
Overseas mediclaim policy mainly covers under the medical expense section which are intended for the use of Insured person in the event of a sudden and unexpected sickness (or) an accident arising when the insured person is outside the Republic of India.
Personal Accident(Section B):
If the insured person is sustained with any bodily injury (or) met with an accident resulting death then the representative of the insured person will be paid, the sum insured which are mentioned in the policy.
The Personal Accident Cover will be applicable in some cases like:
- Death of the insured person
- Permanent Total Disablement of the insured person
- Total and irrecoverable loss of both eyes or two limbs or of one eye and one limb.
Loss of checked in baggage(Section C):
New India Assurance overseas mediclaim policy will pay up to the limit of cover which are shown in the Schedule in the event of the Insured Person suffering total loss of Checked in Baggage.
Delay of checked in baggage(Section D):
Overseas mediclaim insurance policy will pay up to the limit of cover shown in the Schedule for necessary emergency purchase of replacement items in the event that the Insured Person suffers a delay of more than 12 hours from the scheduled arrival time at the destination for delivery of Baggage that has been checked in by an International Airline for an International outbound flight from the Republic of India.
Loss of passport(Section C):
Overseas mediclaim policy will cover in the event of the Insured Person losing his (or) her Passport during the trip covered, and this insurance will pay up to the limit of cover shown in the Schedule .
Personal Liability(Section E):
Overseas mediclaim insurance will pay up to the limit of cover shown in the Schedule if the Insured Person in his or her private capacity becomes legally liable to pay for accidental bodily injury to Third Parties or accidental damage to Third Party Properties, arising from an incident during the covered trip.

New India Assurance Overseas Mediclaim Policy Premium
New India Assurance overseas mediclaim policy premium is mainly depends on Age band, Trip band and Country of visits.
Coverage: Initially cover up to 180 days is provided under Business & Holiday Plan. Extension allowed on original policy for further period of 180 days subject to declaration of good health.
New India Assurance Overseas Mediclaim Policy Exclusions
- All pre-existing disease(or)illnesses are not covered .
- Traveling against Medical advice or for Medical treatment including routine check up.
- First USD 100 of all claims are to be borne by the traveller.

1. What is the cancellation procedure for overseas mediclaim policy?
A. Cancellation of the policy may be done only in cases where a journey is not undertaken and only on production of the Insured person’s passport as a proof that the journey has not been undertaken. Any request for cancellation will be entertained not less than 14 days after the First Day of Insurance as indicated in the policy schedule. Such cancellation will be subject to deduction of cancellation charges by the underwriters as applicable
